With DFW having such a rich tennis history, I have often wondered aloud to any of my friends that would listen as to why there is no ATP event in the Metroplex. The WCT Finals were in Dallas from 1972-1989 producing champions such as Laver, McEnroe, Connors, Borg, Ashe, Lendl and Becker.

North Texas has landed another professional tennis tournament with the addition of the Dallas Tennis Classic, which is scheduled March 12-18 at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Irving.

The tournament, which is moving to Las Colinas from Sunrise, Fla., will be an ATP Challenger level event, and is scheduled to begin a month after the $100,000 Challenger of Dallas, which gets under way this weekend at T Bar M Racquet Club in Dallas and runs through Feb. 12.

IRVING - An ATP event that is likely to attract players rated among the top 50 in the world is coming to the Dallas area in March.

The Dallas Tennis Classic will take place the week of March 12-18 at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas. It replaces the BMW Tennis Championship, which was in Sunrise, Fla. "The Dallas tennis family is so eager and hungry for more professional tennis in town," tournament director Zoltan Papp said.

Top ATP pros return to Dallas for The Dallas Tennis Classic

The Dallas Tennis Classic is a new ATP event coming to the Dallas Metroplex beginning March 12, 2012. The event is sanctioned by the ATP, the principal organizer of the men's professional tennis tour. The Dallas Tennis Classic is conveniently positioned in the tournament schedule between the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California, and the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, both of which are mandatory events for the top 50 ranked players. The location that the Dallas Tennis Classic is replacing on the tour schedule for the past several years was located in Florida, and consistently saw draws including the top players as they prepare for the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida.
